The Entertainment Commission
has come under attack of late by those groups who seek to limit the
variety of entertainment venues in this world-class city. The night
life industry is a significant economic engine driving the San
Francisco economy and that industry, along with its talent and
customers, are rallying to show support for the Commission.

San Francisco's legendary nightlife
venues are being threatened by a state agency that over the last two
years has adopted a more aggressive policy of enforcing its arcane
rules, in the process jeopardizing both needed tax revenue and a
vibrant, tolerant culture that these bureaucrats don't seem to
understand. |

Earlier last month, on behalf of the people of San Francisco, City
Attorney Dennis Herrera reached an agreement with Mirant Corporation
to close their dirty, polluting power plant on Potrero Hill by the
end of 2010.
This is a first,
critical step in a fight we’ve been waging for many years. But
there’s still one more hurdle to clear.

From the Internet to the iPod,
technologies are transforming our society and empowering us as
speakers, citizens, creators, and consumers. When our freedoms in
the networked world come under attack, the Electronic Frontier
Foundation (EFF) is the first line of defense. EFF broke new ground
when it was founded in 1990 — well before the Internet was on most
people's radar — and continues to confront cutting-edge issues
defending free speech, privacy, innovation, and consumer rights
today. From the beginning, EFF has championed the public interest in
every critical battle affecting digital rights.
